Hi Parents!
I hope this post finds you all well. With the first 2 weeks of routines and rules complete, we are ready to embark on setting more specific learning goals for the students. Please see the Goals Tab for what we will be working on for the rest of the month. Also, please see below for some additional updates.
Agenda

Meet the Teacher
We will be having our Virtual Meet the Teacher this coming Thursday. I look forward to see you all there.

Fire Drills
We will be having some Fire Drills over the next couple of weeks. Please speak with your child about the importance of staying calm and following rules during an emergency.
Homework
Due to Coronavirus we are trying to avoid having materials being transferred to and from the home, as such, homework will look different this year. Homework folders will not be sent home at this time. Instead, you can do the following with your child...
1. Practice reading and writing our weekly Word Wall Words which will be written in your child's agenda each Tuesday.
2. Read nightly from books you have at home or leveled readers on Raz Kids which can be found on the Student Portal (see below).
3. Use the Zorbit online Math program to reinforce Math skills.
Student Portal IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
When you go to the School board website,OCSB Website you can access the Student Portal (scroll to the bottom of the homepage you will see portals choose K-6). You will need your child's email address and their password to access the portal. Their email is firstname.lastname@ocsbstudent.ca I have given them all a password to access the site. Their password is written in their agenda at the front. Please try to access this site this week. Let me know if you run into problems. The portal will be very important this year. In the student portal you will find lots of applications your child can access to enhance their learning such as the 2 suggested apps above for homework Zorbits (Math) and Raz Kids (reading). Another very important part of the portal is Happra. Happra is a platform where I will post our weekly work. This will be where you go to see what we are learning in class on any given week. This will be the place you go to keep your child up to date on things should they need to stay home . If we end up being shut down at anypoint, work will be posted there. For this reason, I ask you to make sure you can all access this. I would rather be prepared ahead of time insteading of scrambling if we go back to remote learning. Please write to me in the agenda once you have successfully logged on. At this point there is only the Slide Decks for the first 2 weeks of school there. I appreciate your support in this area to be prepared.
Scholastic Book Orders
I will be sending home Scholastic book orders from time to time. All the orders are done online and your books get delivered right to your home. When you support the book club, our class earns points for free classroom books.

Learning Goals
Normally the Learning Goals will be under the Curriculum Tab of this site. I am having some technical difficulties with that page however so, for this month I have posted them in the Homework Tab. Please have a look there to find them.
