Hi Parents!
Please see below for a few updates.
Zones of Regulation
As part of our morning routine, we always have a whole group discussion about the Zones of Regulation. The children are doing a great job talking about how they are feeling and sharing strategies to "upregulate" or "downregulate" as needed. I encourage you to use this same language at home. The optimum place to be is in the Green Zone. This is where students are calm and ready to learn. When they are in the Yellow or Red Zone they have lost some control and need to downregulate to get back to Green. If they are in the Blue Zone they may be tired or sad and need to upregulate to get back to Green. This morning check-in is meaningful and helps build our classroom community.
Science
As part of our weather unit, we continue to talk about seasons and weather. I'm glad to hear many of you are talking to your children about the temperature and clothing choices. My next challenge for you is to take note of the time the sun is setting each day. We will be tracking this in order for students to see that gradually the sun is setting earlier and earlier, and that as a result, we are getting less sunlight.
Math
We are now working on numbers. Please practice counting with your children to 30. Some of them find the teen numbers a little tricky. Please also use 10 as a benchmark for your discussions (e.g. 20 is 2 tens, 25 is 2 tens and 5 ones). It is important for the children to understand how numbers are composed and how they can be decomposed. Also, please look at the way your children count a set of objects. Encourage them to touch and move the objects as they count. This helps them understand that one the word is for one the object. It help also to eliminate error in counting objects. They should all have this basic understanding of 1:1 correspondence.
Photo Day
Tomorrow is Photo Day!
Clothing
Please make sure your child's clothing is well labelled. I know it can be hard with gloves and hats but please try as best you can. It's frustrating for everyone when these things go missing. We are working on strategies to keep our belongings organized such as placing our gloves in our hats and hats in our coat sleeves.
Playdough
I am looking for a few parents that could volunteer to make playdough. Ideally, we could have one per month. You could make the playdough at home and send it in with your child for the class to use that month. If you are interested in this, please let me know via the agenda and I will assign you a month. Thanks in advance for your help!
Have a wonderful week everyone!
